Bad Reasons for not Donating Your Economic Stimulus Tax Refund

Your “economic stimulus” refund should arrive in the mail, or your bank account, soon. Be a good citizen for once and give it all to veterans and their families. You can pledge to do so on my Facebook group: Donate Your Economic Stimulus to Veterans and Their Families.

Bad reasons for not joining this group:
1) “The government already takes good care of our soldiers. Nobody paid for MY prosthetic legs when they got blown off by an IED in Portland, Maine.”
2) “I need to pay for the part of the increase in the cost of gas created by this endless war.”
3) “The best thing we can do for our country is help the economy by buying iPod Nano’s — that’s good for everybody. Especially for veterans and their families.”
4) “Our men and women in uniform are fighting and dying so we can have the freedom to buy as many iPod Nano’s as we want. I want to honor their valor.”
5) “There’s a sale on blue iPod Nano’s.”
6) “George Bush and Nancy Pelosi told me to spend it on iPod Nano’s and I’m scared of them.”

Good reasons for not joining this group:
1) “I am a veteran. I need the refund to replace my extremities.”
2) “The bank foreclosed on my house yesterday. I need that money to buy a new refrigerator so I can live in the box.”

I came across your blog on Technorati. Nice site layout. I will stop by and read more soon.

No, the best reason for not donating away my (entire) rebate - to any specific charity - is that it really once was my money; the government is just returning it. Whatever portion of my money I had been giving to charity before the rebate is a pretty good indicator of how much of the rebate I should be expected to feel morally obligated to donate. Although, your reasons are funnier.
