This strip was created in early 2003, long before we even knew who Barack Obama was. Back then the prospect of an African-American president still seemed like a joke. Turns out I got the order right. What is really upsetting to me is that we have overcome an institutionalized form of prejudice to at least the point where the majority of Americans are able to vote for a black man to assume the highest office there is, and yet we won’t even accept that a guy who plays a sport for a living, of which there are thousands, wants to be with other men. We have a long way to go in this country.
